Job Purpose As Site Supervisor - Civils you will plan, co-ordinate and undertake regular site inspections to check health and safety, leisure sector. It is a 24 x 7 business, facilitating over £120 billion in trade each year.
The primary role will be the coordination and supervision of paving and underground infrastructure works for the civils & paving framework, including supervision and managing small works schemes. You will ensure works are undertaken in line with Contract requirements utilising the Manual of Contract Documents for Highway Works (MCHW), checking and ensuring works are to the required quality and to programme. You shall uphold and set a good example of safe working practice ensuring compliance to applicable health & safety construction legislation, standards and/or guidance
Duties of the Post Holder • To plan, co-ordinate, manage and supervise onsite civils and highway works, including: paving, road layouts & junctions, highway structures (masts, gantries, road restraints, chambers, signs, retaining walls etc.), foundations for buildings and other non-highway structures, underground infrastructure (utilities, e.g. drainage, ducting, power, communications etc), supporting highway infrastructure, (e.g. VMS, Lighting, security access equipment) setting out and demolition. • To liaise with, assist and direct site staff to ensure works are appropriately planned & controlled, carried out safely, in accordance with a Managed Safe System of Work. To include the preparation and review Risk Assessments and Method Statements for construction works. • To liaise with, and assist site staff to ensure works are carried out in accordance with relevant forms of contract, drawings, specification and to the required quality standard. In particular ensuring site works are carried out in compliance with the Manual of Contract Documents for Highway Works (MCHW) and Design Manual for Roads and Bridges (DMRB). This may require a level of supervision and the provision of instructions to those concerned. • To carry out formal and informal inspections (and associated reporting thereof) of on-going works, both contracted out and internally resourced. • To maintain detailed site diaries recording progress of work, including plant, materials and labour, and any special incidents arising and to submit reports on these incidents to the Project Manager or management team as appropriate. • To ensure defects are notified and dealt with quickly, efficiently and to the required quality. • To proactively and pragmatically problem solve technical and practical issues with Contractors on site. • To act in the capacity of ‘Supervisor’ under the NEC 3 or 4 Engineering and Construction Contract (ECC) • To ensure works are undertaken in line with programme requirements. • Issue of work orders on the internal operational management system, together with the associated documentation. • To assist the management team in connection with new build and maintenance contracts, general surveys and inspections. To include the preparation & review of reports, feasibility studies, cost estimates, investigating problems, and identifying of options, detailed inspection reports, specifications, method statements, risk assessments, tender information, drawings and contract documents. • To liaise & communicate with Operations, contractors, stakeholders and other outside parties as appropriate, to ensure that construction works are carried out with minimum disturbance. • To provide a flexible approach to normal working time, work overtime and attend emergencies and breakdowns as required and when available. The post will require a high degree of flexibility and adaptable team working including some out of hours and call out attendance. • To undertake courses of re-training and improvement when necessary. • Assistance and provision of technical knowledge to others. • To be conversant with and to ensure that all works are prepared and carried out in accordance with the various statutory requirements, including the Board’s Health and Safety Policy.
Experience
• HNC or HND in Civil Engineering, or Construction related discipline. • Extensive experience of supervising & undertaking civils and highways paving & underground infrastructure works. • Management level qualification in H&S and Environment (e.g. SMSTS/SSSTS) • ‘Supervisor’ under the NEC3 or NEC4 Engineering and Construction Contract. • Good user skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, Project and Outlook • Must hold a valid driving license and use of own vehicle
• Practical application of the ‘Manual of Contract Documents for Highway Works (MCHW)’. • A demonstrable understanding of CDM Regulations, Health and safety and is desirable if familiar with use of AutoCAD. • Strong background liaising with Engineering Contractors, Consultants and Clients. • Comply with Health, Safety and Environment policy and procedures. Have regard for own safety, and that of other employees and visitors to the business. • Can deliver great customer service
