Our client delivers effective gateway and traffic services for their customers. Processing up to 10,000 Lorries per day, 120 ferry crossings, 130 cruise ship calls each year, 335k tonnes of refrigerated cargo, and a vibrant marine leisure sector. Job Purpose


You will manage the Mechanical scope of a large project for the delivery of buildings and associated civil, structural and utilities scope from inception to completion as part of large infrastructure project. The project will be delivered in a live operational environment and will require a collaborative approach to be adopted between construction contractors, ‘Framework’ contractors, operational teams and multiple stakeholders in the estate. The purpose of this job is to ensure that the project Mechanical scope is effectively defined and managed to achieve the required project outcomes. Effective collaboration with supply chain and other stakeholders and technical competence in the design and build process are essential. The role is at the forefront of customer service delivery both internally and externally and the post holder needs a strong customer focus and be service minded. The role forms part of a wider Delivery Team focusing on the Outbound Controls Project and operates within the Engineering Department. Project objectives are to be made clear and conform to Sponsor and stakeholder requirements, whilst keeping focus on project objectives and desired outcomes.


Duties of the Post Holder


In this role the postholder will provide a key function by managing and overseeing the optimisation of the design as part of the Outbound Controls Project, covering Employer M&E, associated utilities and interfaces with other technical disciplines, and assisting with other related technical packages that are fundamental to the success of the design and implementation stages. Other packages include are Buildings, Civils, Building Management System, IT network and Fire Alarm Network where existing systems in place require interfaces. This role will also require the coordination with the respective stakeholders (border agencies and ferry operators) to ensure their services provisions are captured and accommodated within the design scope, so that they can install operational FF&E during the construction phase. The postholder will ensure that the optimised design works is effectively managed to achieve the required level of detail to enable the project to be competitively tendered, and a main contractor appointed to deliver the works. During the construction phase, you will be required to act as a ‘supervisor’ under the NEC3 contract managing the quality and commissioning elements. The post holder will report to the Programme Manager and will liaise directly the PoD Operations resources, and across the business for delivery of the Outbound Controls Project programme for the Buildings related scope. Typical responsibilities include: • To be the client-side M&E lead on a complex and integrated infrastructure project. • To manage the optimisation of the design working with early contractor involvement on the technical requirements, and review outputs and respond to these for the design progression through the RIBA stages, • To establish good working relationships with all stakeholders and liaise with these frequently, to maximise cross-functional understanding and impacts assessments across various projects, the key deliverables, and the interdependencies of these, Mechanical Construction Project Engineer • To ensure the optimisation of the design is delivered in accordance with the quality and deliverables as stated in the contract documents to enable the project to be competitively tendered, • To act in the capacity of ‘Project Manager’ under the NEC 3 or 4 Engineering and Construction Contract for M&E related scope. • To ensure defects are notified and dealt with quickly, efficiently and to the required quality through design and construction phases. • To proactively and pragmatically problem solve technical and practical issues with Contractors on site. • To carry out formal and informal inspections, witness testing (and associated reporting thereof) of on[1]going works, both contracted out and internally resourced. • Responsible for receiving correct and completed QA / handover records from contractors. • To ensure works are undertaken in line with programme requirements. • To liaise & communicate with Operations, contractors, stakeholders and other outside parties as appropriate, to ensure that construction works are carried out with minimum disturbance to operations. • Assistance and provision of technical knowledge to others.


Experience


• BSc/BEng in Mechanical, Electrical or Building Services or similar. • Project Management Qualification from APM or alternative relevant professional organisation or demonstratable experience. • A proven track record of: o A minimum of 5 years of demonstrable experience as project manager for building construction projects. o Managing projects through the project lifecycle from inception to completion. o Working collaboratively with contractors, consultants and other stakeholders. o Proactive communication and management of expectations. o Producing Works and Site Information for pricing by Contractors and Scope information for pricing by Consultants o Fulfilling the role of Project Manager under the NEC contracts. o Managing a portfolio of construction projects. o Producing project budgets and managing costs against budget. o Producing work/product break down structures and producing and maintaining project programmes using MS Project. o Ability to produce drawing in AutoCAD / ProDesign or similar design tool. • A demonstrable understanding of CDM Regulations and Health & Safety Legislation. Cooperate and comply with Company Health, Safety and Environmental policy and procedures. Have regard for own safety, and that of other employees and visitors • Full driving licence and own transport with business insurance. Contactable outside office hours and able work additional hours on occasion. • Good user skills in MS Office and MS Project • Experience of managing costs against set budgets
